DEVOTIONS
by Teresa Dietrich
“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’” Revelation 7:17
Jesus promises living water. We should drink one glass of water before starting the day, then eat. According to Personal Trainer, Massage Therapist, and Esthetician Bailey Creek (@mve_with_b), this is to get our metabolism going first thing in the morning. She also says coffee can dehydrate, so starting with water is essential.
This idea of drinking water to start the day prompted me to reflect on the Living Water of Jesus and the importance of beginning our day with prayer and reading Scripture. We become spiritually dehydrated each day when we don’t do this.

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to Me!” John 7:37 (NLT) – Read the Full Chapter
Imagine sitting down to read your Bible and feeling refreshed—as though the Holy Spirit is pouring a long, tall glass of water into your overwhelmed, anxiety-ridden, and weary soul. Without it, we are inclined to be like dry sponges. We become new again as He pours His Living Water into our dry, sponge-filled lives. Jesus promises living water.
Refreshment comes from knowing and spending time with Jesus. Just one verse at a time is all we need to reconnect with the well of water that Christ offers us after a night’s sleep. Just one prayer to start the day by rejoining Jesus on our life-giving journey with Him from the day before. It is that simple! We must begin the day with something, so why not something refreshing like a glass of water, prayer, and Scripture?
Friend, God loves you and is waiting for you to spend time with Him today. Through the day’s busyness, He will make a way for the two of you to meet. I pray that you will see the opening and be able to connect with Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You for always hearing my prayers. Help me to pray and read my Bible the moment I get out of bed. Please keep me focused on You and remove any distractions that keep me from seeing You first. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
